13 Secret Strategies to Convert Your Website into Your Marketing Machine

  1. Make your website your secret weapon--it should attract new clients and be the hub of your business’ organization and systems. Your website is the center of all your systems and marketing—it’s like the center of a wagon wheel, with spokes coming out of the center.
  2. Reflect your ideal client in carefully chosen words and pictures—so they know instantly that they want to work with you! Your website should have words that resonate with your future clients and with what they want. This isn’t a time to brag about yourself, but rather to appeal to what they are looking for. Avoid stock photos (they look “too perfect”) and instead use real photos of real people you’ve worked with! Use words that resonate with what they are hoping to achieve after working with you. Focus on what set you apart from your competitors and what benefits you have when your clients work with you.
  3. Your website shouldn’t just be beautiful—it should have clear instructions so your visitor knows exactly what you want them to do next! The number one mistake that web developers make is creating a website that is a beautiful piece of art, but is not clear to the reader. Your website should have a clear call to action. Do you want them to call you? Email? Stop by? What do you want them to do next? Do you have beautiful images and pictures but not enough text? Your SEO is largely linked to the amount of text on your homepage, but most web developers don’t even know this.
  4. Under the hood of your website, implement the correct SEO so your site is found on Google and is creating consistent traffic to your site. Google what your business does (not the name of your business). Are you showing up?
  5. Ensure that your website is listed correctly.  A very common mistake is that owners do not list their websites on the online directories that are available for free. There are essential directories on the web available to power boost your SEO and reach more people to make a difference in their lives!
  6. Install secret pages for your staff, to streamline communication and your office systems. Hook up your client relationship management system so it’s easily accessible from your website for your clients and for your staff (on the hidden pages). The tool that you use should track all your clients, their contact information, billing information, and their stage in your business. (Are they a prospective client? Current?) Having this in all one place will save hours of juggling between multiple Excel sheets. The monthly subscription fee for a service like this is worth every penny! Be sure to have screenshots and training materials for your desk staff to refer to, while they are using this system.
  7. Create online forms for your desk staff to use so that everyone is in the know on all important information and updates in your company.  For example, have a “hidden” web page that only your staff can access. Create online forms for your staff to use and fill out, to track important updates in your company (when someone becomes a client, books an appointment, or when someone discontinues your services, etc.). When the form is submitted, it should automatically email the contents to the owner (so you know about the changes) and also catalog the information into a database to refer to in the future, when needed.
  8. Build in auto responders. When your staff uses the online forms, you can set emails to automatically send when certain action is taken. This makes it appear that you are emailing them personally, even though you wrote them email months before. (For example, an automatic email can be sent to welcome them to your program when they sign up, appearing that you are sending it in real time.)
  9. Set up your email properly so your desk staff’s email flows through the owners inboxes so you can “see” what is happening at all times. Your email addresses should be linked to your website’s URL and you should be “copied” on all emails. This doesn’t mean you respond to all of them, but you are able to see what’s happening at all times and see how your staff is corresponding to your clients.
  10. Create an online notebook to keep track of all important information about your clients and your company details. In live time, anyone can know what is going on and can reference what happened during all shifts, no matter who is working. Choose a tool that is easy to use (there are many options) and invite your staff to these notebooks, so you can all have access to important information. Link this to the hidden page on your website for your staff.
  11. Correctly connect your website to your social media platforms to maximize the firepower of social media. People should be able to get to your Facebook page and Twitter feed from your website with links on the right-hand side of your home page. They should also be able to quickly locate your web address from your personal Facebook page and your business page. List your URL in the “About” section of your Facebook profiles.
  12. Use your website as the hub of regular communication with current and prospective clients. Write weekly or monthly newsletters and put on a newsletters page of your website. Then, share this link via email and on all your social media platforms.  Choose weekly or monthly newsletters and stick to it. Systematize this process so it doesn’t absorb all your time, but remember that keeping in front of your current and prospective clients is extremely important for the health and growth of your company!
  13. Link all your marketing back to your website! On all your marketing, drive traffic to your website! Encourage them to fill out a form on your “Contact Us” page. After you gather their information, you can stay in touch regularly until they convert into your client!
