I love the first week of the month because I get to work with my one-on-one coaching clients! The primary question I have asked this week has been: "What are you doing to get ready for January marketing?" I don't want to talk about December. I don't want to hear that you are in a "slow season" or that you are "so stressed out." I want to talk about what you are planning for January.
Now is the time of year when everyone is in a tizzy. They are freaking out about shopping and wrapping and buying and baking. You don't have to get caught up in all the crazy. You can rise above. Do you know how you catch up? I'm going to tell you a secret. You do something that isn't due until 1 month later. I do this trick all the time. In early November, I created, printed and addressed our Christmas letters. They sat on my desk, ready to go, until December 1. They weren't a source of stress for me. It was a joy to send letters to my family and friends. And because I did it ahead of time, they didn't get pushed off or ignored. You can trick your brain by ignoring the urgent and getting something done that is important. Right now you could write 3 emails to send to your list in January. You could even preschedule them! You could write 3 Facebook ads right now to be published in January. When New Year's hits and everyone is recovering from the holiday, you will be AHEAD! Imagine how good that will feel! Now don't tell me you don't have time. We all have the same amount of time, and frankly, I have more resonsibilities than most people I know and I still have time to get it all done. How? Because I trick my brain. I do things fast (not perfectly). I just get it done. I look ahead. What can I do NOW that my January self will thank me for?? Now listen. I'm not trying to be too hard on you. If you are a sole-proprieter or dealing with health issues or fires or other freak circumstances, there is grace. And you can always ask for help. That's what we are here for. Can't get your marketing done? We can help. In fact, just book a call with me (for THIS week) and we'll talk about what I can take off your plate. I just signed up a new business owner for monthly SEO, Google AdWords and Monthly Facebook Marketing Management. He knows he can't do it all, but he also knows it MUST be done. Atta boy. He WILL succeed because he is prioritizing the right things. Stop your Christmas decorating and obsessing about what you'll get your staff for Christmas for a minute. Instead, plan your January marketing. When you're finished, walk into a nice restaurant and buy gift cards. Write a heartfelt "Thank you" note and hand deliver it to your staff. Look them in the eye. Tell them how much you value them. THAT will go a lot further than you scurrying around, chasing your tail, hunting for the "perfect" gift. Breathe. I know it's a busy season but it doesn't have to be stressful one. I promise. You got this! Psst. Let's talk and see if I can help you.
